Yeah, that's right. It's half past midnight and I have to be reasonably awake tomorrow to make it back to Cambridge in one piece, and I'm sitting up trying to work on Finnim's father-name.

Maybe I should explain.

Finnim/Nimfinwë is a nickname he's picked up in childhood. Finnim always was, but I think the whole thing should be because otherwise it sounds too much like he's related to the House of Finwë. _{He is by marriage, three times, but that's another story.}
Now, it's quite clear that the key element in the vaguely patronymic names of the House of Ingwë is in/ing.  We have Ingwë himself, Indis, Ingweil, Ingalaurë (Finarfin's mothername), etc etc... A quick glance at HoME index provides others. Unfortunately, this is a particularly difficult element to try and join things to, at least in the pattern of Curufinwë etc. It's actually impossible to find something it sounds good after. I see now why all Tolkien's ones start with it...

All the same, I have managed to salvage a couple of names.
Arengwë, lowering the vowel, is probably my favourite. Unluckily, but approriately, for him, engwa means 'sickly' in an uncertain Elvish language. :/
Telpinwë, dropping the g, is my other option.
Alkaringwë, which works beautifully, but seems a bit too boastful to fit, at least with this time period.

Other, ing-initial, options:
Ingatelpë
Ingarwë
Ingaherion


At this point, I give up. Too many options for my poor brain to process.
So, what do you, poor unfortunate reader, think? Does anyone have any particularly strong feelings about any of them?
Oh, and feel free to make my indecision worse, if you have any good ideas. XD


_{NB: Yes, technically a more grammatically correct nickname for him would be something like Nimyo, but then the similarities between his and Moryo's names become to sickly and I have to go off to be ill. It's entirely accidental that they have opposite names, I swear! When I first named Finnim, seven years ago, the only name I knew for Moryo was Caranthir. I actually headdesked when I first discovered it. *sobs*}
